Amateur Softball Association National Softball Hall of Fame Museum: play ball!
Established in 1957, the Amateur Softball Association National Softball Hall of Fame Museum serves as the official collection of memorabilia dedicated to preserving the memory of former softball players who had exceptional careers, contributions and significant achievements. The museum exhibits feature videos, team photographs, uniforms, balls, bats and other articles of softball history. Learn about the significant achievements in softball and what has made it such a popular sport in the United States and in the Olympics. On the first floor you’ll find an entire gallery dedicated to commemorating the addition of softball in the 1996 Olympics. There you’ll find individual and team photographs and other memorabilia.
In the lower level of the museum you’ll find displays highlighting the NCAA College World Series, the Big 12 Conference and the USA Collegiate Player of the Year Award. Also, follow the timeline of the history of the Amateur Softball Association for a look back at its most memorable accomplishments. If you’re looking for information on a specific player, the museum has computers that you can use to search for information contained in the Hall of Fame database.
Also located in the Hall of Fame building is the headquarters for the Amateur Softball Association (ASA)—the national non-profit governing association of softball in the United States. Founded in 1933, the ASA serves an important role in softball—responsible for regulating competitions and ensuring fairness and equal opportunities for millions of players is their main purpose. Today, the ASA has over 250,000 teams and more than four million members. Another exciting component of the Hall of Fame Museum site is the ASA Stadium—built in 1987 and later renovated in 2002 with the addition of 3,000 seats and two other fields. The ASA Stadium hosts many nationally recognized and televised games including the NCAA Women’s College World Series and the World Cup of Softball.
