Oklahoma River Cruises: All aboard for a relaxing journey
Jun 11, 2010
Enjoy a relaxing journey across the Oklahoma River aboard the Oklahoma River Cruise. The seven-mile river stretch runs through downtown Oklahoma City, linking up with the Meridian Avenue corridor and offers a beautiful view and a peaceful escape from the busy roads.
As part of the public transit program of Oklahoma City, the Oklahoma River Cruise offers regular scheduled routes for commuters and anyone else that enjoys a ride aboard. The cruise paths are surrounded by landscaped trails, public boating and fishing facilities and several pedestrian bridges. So, by boat, foot or bike, this area is an enjoyable destination.
The cruise schedule runs Wednesday-Sunday, with the earliest cruises starting at 9:45 a.m., depending on day and season, and ending as late as 6 p.m. Cruise season is April-December with a one-way running time of about 45 minutes. The Oklahoma River Cruise has three boarding locations, one at Regatta Park landing, 725 South Lincoln Blvd., and the second at Meridian landing just east of SW 15th Street and Meridian. The third location at Exchange landing is half way between the first two.
Adult one-way fare is $9 and round trip cost $12, children under the age of 6 are free with a paid adult. Child fare for ages 6-12 is $6 for one way and $8 round trip. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Guarantee your ride by saving time and purchase your cruise tickets on line. For your convenience; snacks, drinks and boxed lunches are available for purchase while you cruise along, and if you’re having a special event or party you can pre-order cakes and other catering items.
Liven things up a bit and hop aboard one of the Oklahoma River Cruise themed cruises. They’ve got a little something for everyone including a Saturday morning classic cartoon cruise and an Oklahoma history comes to life series. Enjoy classic cartoons and Cracker Jacks aboard every Saturday morning cruise that departs before noon.
Then, during the Oklahoma history cruises, see some of Oklahoma’s historical characters come to life through entertaining reenactments including: Wiley Post, cowboys, pioneer women, land runners, civil war fighters and more. The Oklahoma history cruises run every Saturday between May and August and depart at noon from the Regatta Park landing. A second cruise departs at 12:45 p.m. from the Exchange Landing.
Other theme cruises include the Sunday sensation live and the sunset cruises. Enjoy life music, entertainment, appetizers and drinks aboard the Sunday sensation live cruise, running from May to September and departs from the Meridian landing at 4 p.m. ($19 per person). Then, for a great date night idea, check out the sunset cruises. Departing from the Regatta Park landing on Friday and Saturday nights from April through October at 7:30 p.m., this cruise features music, appetizers, drinks and a romantic sunset ($29 per person).
Finally, for a more intimate celebration or event gathering, book the Oklahoma River Cruise for a private charter. Private cruises can host up to 35 people and include 90 minutes of use. Catering, entertainment and audio visual equipment are available. Private cruise packages start at $450. Your guests will be impressed with this fantastic party location!
