Arbuckle Wilderness: A hands-on wildlife adventure
May 30, 2010
Take a walk on the wild side at Arbuckle Wilderness, with more than 400 acres of wildlife habitat to explore on foot, safari bus or in the comfort of your own car.
There are hundreds of exotic and rare animals roaming the grounds, including giraffes, rhinos, ostrich, buffalo and much more. Interacting with the animals can be a very enjoyable experience for all—visitors can purchase large animal feed cups for $2 each or 3 cups for $5—feed the large animals by hand from your car.
Also, turtle, fish and duck food is available for $1.50 each bag. On the safari bus tour, learn all about the history and lives of each of the animal species that live on the wilderness habitat.
Arbuckle Wilderness offers a fun-filled experience for your next group gathering, birthday or other event. Take an old-fashioned hayride hosted by the park ranger then enjoy a cookout with your choice of hotdogs, hamburgers or steak. Advance reservations are required for groups of 25 or more.
Animal tours aren’t the only way to enjoy your visit to Arbuckle. Take a ride on the go-karts, bumper boats and bumper cars—rides range from $4 single rides to $6 double rides. There is also an arcade area, picnic tables to enjoy your lunch and plenty of picture perfect scenery to enjoy under the oak trees.
Finally, you’ll want to be sure to stop by the gift shop before you head out, where you’ll find hundreds of souvenirs, including stuffed animals, cloths, toys, jewelry, books and Native American art.
Enjoy more than just a wildlife experience in the beautiful Davis, Okla. area. Arbuckle lodging offers a variety of vacation getaway deals including private house rentals—choose from log cabins, cottages, lake houses and other historic homes ($75-$250 each night). Located ½ mile from Arbuckle Wilderness, the log cabins come with all amenities, including satellite TV, a hot tub, grill, utensils, linens and more.
HelloMetro Tip: A mile down the road, you can visit Turner Falls Parks and take a dip in the spring water or stay at the Arbuckle Lake. Boat rentals are available at the lake locations.
