Science Museum Oklahoma: Science and discovery have never been so fun!

Apr 13, 2010

Fun enthusiasts of all ages can enjoy exploration in abundance at the Science Museum Oklahoma. Explore the many hand-on learning stations throughout the museum, watch a film on the Omni Theater and learn about the night’s sky in the Planetarium.

The newest exhibit to explore is Whodunit: The Science of Solving Crimes. With the help of the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, learn about the scientific methods and technologies used by forensic professionals.

In Destination Space, learn all about space exploration as you explore the actual Apollo Command Module Mission Simulator. Then, check out the Gadget Trees—a two-story tree house with a huge spiral slide. Children can swing, climb, explore and play all day in this fantastic “backyard” center. Other museum attractions include a kid’s space, where parents can take a break while the little tots explore. Also, be sure to check out the Aviation and Train Collections, Tinkering Garage, Explorazone and more.

The Science Museum Oklahoma offers a very special theater experience in the Dome Theater—a 70 foot screen and digital sound surrounds the audience, making the Dome Theater experience amazingly realistic.  A featured show at the Dome is the Fighter Pilot: Operation Red Flag. Take a behind the scenes look at what it takes to make an air force mission happen.  Or, watch Everest—a dramatic true story of a team of climbers that set out to embark on one of the most dangerous and challenging mountain climbing challenges.

One of the most amazing experiences at the Science Museum Oklahoma is the Planetarium.  There, you will learn all about the sky, stars, constellations and legends that make the nights’ sky such a fascinating wonder.  There are several sessions each day, and they sell out quickly, so be sure to get your tickets early or in advance.

Ticket purchases for the museum exhibits, theater presentations and the Planetarium can all be purchased individually or together for a discounted rate. Be sure to check out the pricing packages for individuals and groups when you arrive. And, while you’re visiting the Science Museum Oklahoma be sure to stop by the Science Shop for educational toys and games as well as other souvenirs, clothing and treats. They even have rock candy and astronaut ice cream!
